Senior Project Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your 2-Hour Presentation and/or your senior project? Why?

I am very surprised with the outcome of my 2- Hour Presentation. I have been scared of this day ever since I found out about it my freshmen year. I believe that I went above what people expected from me my presentation.  I'm most proud of the quantity and quality of information I presented because it is valuable information and essential to managing a distribution business. I was also able to give examples which made it easier for my audience to understand.

(2) Questions to Consider

What assessment would you give yourself on your 2-Hour Presentation (self-assessment)? Why?

I would give myself a P+ because of the content of information I presented out on. Business can be a topic hard to understand, which forced me to give examples of every little thing in order to get understanding from the audience. Furthermore I connected everything back to essential question in order to show how it makes sense. I also had a lot of information to share out on I didn't try to extend and repeat what I said several times in order. Also I feel that my activities were connected in a such way that allowed my audience to get an understanding towards my topic.

What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)? Why?

I would give myself an AE for my overall senior project grade. I feel that I gave my heart out this senior year with everything I have done. I have never taken the easy way out and have tried my best. Furthermore I have always made sure to do my blogs on time, and revise them when I found a better answer. I have also obtained a lot of research, more then I was supposed to have. I have turned in all my interviews on time and made sure that I'm always up to date.

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?

The Independent Component and 20 minute presentation. The 20 minute presentation prepared me for what to expect on my two hour presentation. With the 20 minute under my belt I knew what to expect in the the two hour, which helped me calm down. Also the Independent component because I took college classes and met many new people interested in the same field as me. With an Independent component one has the freedom to pursue what they want.

(4) What didn’t work for you in your senior project?

The 3-Coulmn chart did not work for me because I found it quite useless. It was difficult to understand the flow of the three column chart. I used my iSearch to refer back to any information I needed on my powerpoint. Furthermore if I had a perfect 3- Column Chart, I would still prefer to look back over at my iSearch paper because it was more detailed and specific.

(5) Finding Value
How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.

The Senior project really brought me out of my comfort zone. This was extremely complicated at first because I tried to avoid communication in order to hide my speech impediment. But I found that there to be no way to avoid it, because of all the components we had. I had to do presentations in my college class every time the class was in session. I also had an independent component in which I sold and bought phones. This consisted of improving my peoples skills and learning how to communicate to people in a confident manner in order to sell a product. This senior project is going to help me in the future because presentations don't stop here, Im going to have to do them in college, and in the business field once employed.

Blog 25: Service Learning

Literal

Here I have a log showing the first 25 hours, I finished my service learning back in January 01, 2012. I seem to have misplaced the second log, but have the signed pink form to back me up with my 50 hrs.

Business Name: Dairy Depot
Name: Lauren Heesch
Phone Number 626/81--4747 Ex. 4

Interpretive
I was able to gain a tremendous understanding for distribution business. I learned how suppliers play a huge roles in these types of businesses, and how employees are the feet to the business.  Employees are the feet to the business because without them nothing gets done. A leader can't do the work of all their employees. If employees are motivated and feel valued a business will succeed. Also in a Dairy Distribution, one must ensure that there product doesn't expire and is sold before expiration date.

 Applied
This applies to my essential question, " What is the best way to manage a distribution business?", because in order to manage a business, one must consider many variables. These variables consist of maintain profitably, strategic planning, and relationship with your employee. I would have never found this out without my service learning. I saw that a strategic plan is needed in order to keep the business ahead. In order for a business to survive it must maintain profitability, and there are many way to achieve this in a distribution. One can check inventory, maintain customers satisfied, and find affordable suppliers. Finally maintaining a healthy relationship with your employees because without employees the business collaspses.

Independent Component 2

“I, David Delgado, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”

This semester for my individual component I decided to do two things.  I decided to do partial of my cellphone business which is very time consuming. I always have to be alert and and be able to meet with potiental clients whom have to be put as a first priority. It's unfortunate that it wouldn't  be fair if I did my 30 hrs in two days since it  consist of being alert at all times. I tried my best my breaking down my cellphone business into pieces. The pieces I spread it into are the buying, selling, and posting. I have here gathered a few photos that show my post and the items I purchase. I have decided not to share all information because loose lips sink ships. I left some price information in order to for the viewer to see how much I work with. I've attached a log of a few phones ( serial numbers)  that I purchased. You can go here and type it in to verify the phone exist. This information is used for educational purposes only.

Furthermore by going to iPoly I have never done what I'm required to do of work. I am also taking a college class at Cal Poly that is every Monday and Wednesday. This class meets twice a week for a total of  almost 2 hrs. This class ends in June.

Applied
How did it help you answer your EQ?  Be specific and use examples.

My cellphone business helped me understand how important Customer Service is in a business. Customers will always need the help, and one must be able to be there in order to receive more potential business in the future. It is proven that it is harder to attract a new customer. This has helped me understand my interviews when they claim that customer service is one of the most important things in managing any business. Furthermore the college class I'm taking is for my personal benefit in order to advance. This class explains how there are many parts to management, and haven't gotten the final understanding because the class is still in progress.

Helping 2013

Interviewee: Taryn Cronkite
Date: 04/25/2012
Time: 12:49PM

(1) What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?

Their answer: I plan on doing psychology because I have always been interested in it, and I plan on being a psychologist when I'm older. Another possible topic can be invent planning, because it seems something I would have fun doing throughout the year. Furthermore I have an uncle that is most probable to help me out since he is an event coordinator for Vans.

What feedback did you offer when you heard the topic ideas?

I recommend that you do your senior project on a topic that you have abundant sources in. For example psychology would be a complicated area to do your service learning because there patient information must remain confidential. I would go for event planning because you will have an easier time obtaining information.

(2) What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning (working with an expert) which is due prior to senior year starting?

Their answer: It all depends on the topic I decide to go with. But if I go for event planning I will be able to work with my uncle, which shouldn't be a problem. I will be able to follow him around and go to all the Vans events that he coordinates.

What feedback did you offer them in response?

That is a great thing to do for your first 10hrs of service learning. Not only will you have the benefit of going to Vans events and enjoying them, you will also be able to do your service learning. Your basically killing 2 birds with one stone.

(3) What do you hope to see or expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?

Their answer: I hope they aren't boring and to learn something new or a topic that can potentially interest me. I can always change my mind regarding the senior topic.

What suggestions did give them regarding how they should approach watching the 2 hour presentations?

You should approach the senior presentations with an open mind, and be ready to learn a lot. This is a project that took the whole year to conclude and many people will have a lot to share about there personal experiences.

(4) What questions do they have about senior project?

Their questions:
What is the hardest part of the senior project?
Answer: The hardest part of the senior project would be your 2hr presentation because it sums up all you have learned through out the year. You should take a lot if time to prepare for your two hours because you can't get yourself around it.

How much research do we have to do?
Answer: You have to do a total of 60 sources.

What are the requirements for the two hour presentation?
Answer: The requirements are to at least speak for 30 minutes and have activities that take up 30 minutes, which will total an hour. You can present for 1hr, but they give you 2hrs in case you need to take the whole duration.

What additional recommendations would you give the 2013 student about senior project?

I would recommend you to take your time picking your senior topic because you will have to stick with it throughout the whole year. Also don't procrastinate because components will start stacking up and you will have a difficult time getting across them. Also deadlines are closer then they appear, and treat everything as a priority.

Answer # 3

What is the best way to manage a Distribution Business?Answer 3: Customer Service

Customer Service is needed to have a successful Distribution Business, the customers need to feel that they can trust one.

Evidence:

Every business should have objectives. One of those objectives should be to find new customers, and to keep those customers. Good customer service allows you to keep customers, which is cheaper, quicker and easier then finding new ones! It costs at least five times as much to win a new customer as it does to keep a current one.

Dairy Depot ( Service Learning) has a time frame where they call customers and ask if there service was satisfying and how they can improve.

It costs at least five times as much to win a new customer as it does to keep a current one.

2. What activity ideas do you have for answer 1 or 2?

Answer 1
Planning:
This activity will consist of a group of classmates to plan and organize the delivery of items to a market. They must plan by using the most cost effective method and fastest arrival.

Answer 2
Supplier:
A group will be given a list with many suppliers offering items at different prices. Since Distributions buy items in Bulk one will have to find the most affordable bulk, and price per item. ( More Details will be added )
